Solicit Synopsis
The Watcher asks for Quasar's help in retrieving the myriad Living Lasers across the alternate realities in "Calling All Lasers". Part 1 of 2, continued next issue.
Notes
- Uatu dispatches Quasar to neutralize the Living Laser in multiple different realities. The first seven of these realities were featured in the following What If?/What If...? comics:
- Earth-82432 first appeared in "What If the Avengers Had Become the Pawns of Korvac?" from What If? #32.
- Earth-89721 first appeared in "What If the Avengers Had Lost the Evolutionary War?" from What If...? #1.
- Earth-906 first appeared in "What If Captain Marvel Had Not Died?" from What If...? #14.
- Earth-9140 first appeared in "What If Wolverine Had Become the Lord of the Vampires?" from What If...? #24.
- Earth-9112 first appeared in "What If Phoenix Had Lived?" from What If...? #32.
- Earth-1089 first appeared in "What If the Alien Costume Had Possessed Spider-Man?" from What If...? #4
- Earth-9151 first appeared in "What If Set Had Come to Earth?" from What If...? #25.
- Although six of those What If? worlds have unique elements that enable them to be definitively identified, the one that involves Dark Phoenix is less certain since, at the time this issue was published, there had been two What If? stories in which the threat posed by the Dark Phoenix was not ended. The first story, from What If? #27, was "What If Phoenix Had Lived?" and it ended with Jean Grey (Earth-81727) becoming the Dark Phoenix again, then engulfing and destroying Earth-81727 before expanding ever outward across the universe, destroying everything in its path. Given that Quasar thinks to himself that every single alternate reality he's visited seemed to be on the verge of destruction, Earth-81727 seems to qualify more than Earth-9112.
- The eighth alternate Earth that Quasar visits is Earth-92130, a timeline where Maelstrom slew Quasar and continued to grow in power until he was eventually opposed by an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos
- A footnote mentions that, although Quasar met Thanos in Quasar #26 and Infinity Gauntlet #3, due to the events of Infinity Gauntlet #6, he has no memory of those meetings. This idea will be supported by the story in Quasar #37 but then contradicted by the story in Quasar #42.
