History
R'ym'r is an ancient immortal energy vampire from the second world. Because he could not die, he trapped inside an artifact and seal at some unknown point in the past. During the modern day, he was freed under unknown circumstances and set up a nest in Atlanta. There, he sent out his children to drain humans, and bring them back to feed on. He was raising all kinds of hell in Atlanta, until Blade and his daughter Brie chased him off.[2]
Weak from being forced out of Atlanta, R'ym'r headed to Brooklyn in New York City and set up a new nest in an abandoned subway. A week later, he was found by Blade and Brie, who had been tailing him, and now joined by Spider-Man. R'ym'r and his children attacked the three, and as they fought R'ym'r revealed why he is also called R'ym'r The Immortal. That no matter how many times Blade cuts him he will not die, and tricks like Spider-Man's U.V. light only the lesser of his kind would fall too. Blade was more than happy to keep stabbing R'ym'r for touching his daughter, but the others wanted to wrap it up instead. So Blade began the incantation to R'ym'r's horror. But just as Blade started Hightail, who had been tracking Spider-Man to arrest him, came speeding in and accidentally broke the incantation.[2]
Figuring she'd arrest, Spider-Man and the others after she took care of R'ym'r, she rushed at him to try and finish R'ym'r off. R'ym'r faced her head on, and after testing her powers decided to add her to his collection. He quickly took hold of her, and turned her into one of his children. R'ym'r planned to use her as his herald of death, merchant of his message, and use her speed to give himself unfathomable reach. And with the boundless energy she would collect for him, he will become whole once again. As he sent her off, Spider-Man gave chase, and he with his remaining children fought the others. Despite his children all quickly being killed, R'ym'r started to gain the upper hand. He slammed Brie to the ground, with plans to add her to his collection, but turned to face Blade when he threw a knife into R'ym'r's head. Spider-Man, having stopped Hightail from gathering energy for R'ym'r, return and knock him through a nearby wall. With Spider-Man back in the mix, and needing to end this now, Blade had them keep R'ym'r busy while prepared the seal. Enraged by their interference and refusal to die. R'ym'r was caught off guard as Blade finished the incantation, and once again sealed him away inside the artifact.[1]
Some time later, R'ym'r children reappeared one night and attacked people in the streets. Spider-Man attempted to intervene when Hightail joined in and took out the energy vampires. With the Cape Killers being given the night off by Agent Gao, she didn't want to waste her rec time on Spider-Man. And with one energy vampire left, and running up the side of a building, she gave chase. Spider-Man, thinking maybe she was again being controlled went after her. And despite her protest that she was not a vampire, he slowed her down enough to have her turn to deal with him. With her focus no longer on the vampire, he escaped. But still, Hightail revealed to Spider-Man that she has been hearing R'ym'r voice again. That it started a few days ago, like a hum that won't die down. And that she will never forget what it felt like, having his thoughts in her head after he turned her. Spider-Man, not sure at first because Blade sealed R'ym'r up inside of the artifact. Let her known that he will track down Blade about it, and now having a bad feeling about all of this he needed to do it fast.[3]
But unbeknownst to either of them, the vampire that got away, had the sealed artifact containing his sleeping master all along. And has he made his way through the sewers, and with a change coming R'ym'r will be freed to help lead.[3]See Also
