—Rabble[source]I'm the one who's left behind. The discarded accumulation of all my parents' wildest hopes and dreams. A scarred idea of hope and opportunity for a better future tossed aside for another. I am the one lost among the scramble. Another body lost... to the Rabble.
History
Raneem Rashad was born to Jordanian immigrants in the US. Her parents realized she had special powers from a young age and would often ask her to fix machines when they broke.[2]
Her mother's death during her youth drove her to work hard to succeed in the technological department, and her father later convinced her to apply to Brooklyn Visions Academy. There were only about 40 spots available and more than 700 people applied, so there was a lottery to decide who would be accepted into the school; the last spot ended up going to Miles Morales, leaving Raneem out of the school.[3][2]
The years passed and her resentment for Miles only grew. After finding out he was the new Spider-Man, Raneem decided to finally take matters into her own hands and make him her first victim in her path to get justice.[2]
She learned everything she could about him[4] and decided to attack his loved ones, starting with his girlfriend Tiana Toomes, who was also the superheroine Starling.[5] After capturing Starling, Rabble captured Miles' best friend Ganke Lee[1] and lured Miles into a trap by impersonating Ganke's phone.[2] Rabble revealed her past and knowledge of Miles' history to him and managed to beat him into submission. She then targeted Miles' family by blowing up their apartment in Brooklyn.[1] Miles rescued his parents and sister and fought Rabble by manifesting a sword from his Venom blasts to match Rabble's own energy sword while Starling and Ganke were rescued by Misty Knight. Spider-Man pleaded with Rabble to drop her feud against him but she refused, resulting in him overloading her tech which created an explosion. Miles barely survived while Rabble fled.[6]
During the Gang War, Rabble formed an alliance with the Hobgoblin in helping him gain control of New York's criminal underworld by upgrading his tech.[7] In addition to supplying the criminals under Hobgoblin's employ, Rabble also supplied the other criminal organizations participating in the Gang War, including Mister Negative,[8] the Buzz Boyz, and the Ankh-Colytes.[7] Spider-Man, along with Starling, Ms. Marvel, Shift, and the Prowler (who had been working undercover for the Hobgoblin to uncover his plans) teamed up with the Cape Killers to confront Hobgoblin and Rabble at their secret base in Brooklyn.[9] Rabble fought against Spider-Man and his allies until Scorpion convinced several supervillains under the Hobgoblin's employ to turn on him. Seeing no other use for the Hobgoblin, Rabble abandoned him to join Madame Masque, her true employer, in the final battle at Central Park.[10] Rabble equipped Madame Masque with upgraded tech and joined her forces against the Syndicate and their allies.[11] Several of New York's heroes intervened in the battle and Rabble faced off against Miles again in exchange for Masque rewarding her with an A.I.M. lab.[12] When the tide turned against Masque, Rabble abandoned the battle but vowed to Miles that they would finish their feud later.[13]
With her ability to communicate with machines weakened from her previous fights with Miles, Rabble raided several tech depots throughout the city to heal her powers until she was able to steal some valuable tech from Roxxon. Rabble was approached by Julia Gao for an alliance as they shared a mutual enemy in Spider-Man.[14] Due to the city's Powers Act banning vigilantism being repealed, Gao hoped to arrest Spider-Man before the repeal was made official and Rabble provided her and the Cape Killers with special battlesuits made from her tech, but gave Gao's suit special command to put the Cape Killers' suits directly under Gao's control. After visiting her father at his nursing home, Raneem joined the Cape Killers with her own updated armor and restored powers in their final attempt to arrest Spider-Man and his allies. However, Rabble double crossed Gao and took complete control over her and the Cape Killers' suits, which pushed their bodies to the extreme but would eventually kill them in order to provoke Miles, who managed to fully tap into his Venom powers, into fighting her in a final one-on-one battle. The controlled Cape Killers grievously injured Shift, making Miles more determined to stopping her.[15] Although Rabble broke his arm and rendered him temporarily blind, Miles managed to slip an Inhibitor Collar onto her, depowering Rabble long enough for him to knock her out, which freed the Cape Killers from her control. Rabble was then taken away by the authorities.[16]Personality
Raneem Rashad is a person forged by struggle, hardships and loneliness. Having the ability to communicate with machines since a young age, she never felt the need to connect with people, preferring to talk to machines, but also remained oblivious to her parents' struggle until her mother suddenly died of an undiagnosed illness. Seeing her father mourning and changing from depression, she dedicated herself to working hard and helping people with her gift, but after being declined from Brooklyn Visions Academy, losing the spot to Miles Morales, she developed an intense hatred of him, vowing to make him pay for "stealing" her dreams and developing an obsession over him.[2]
She was also manipulative, unempathetic, and petty, taking control of and boosting the Cape Killers through their suits to provoke Miles and drive him into fighting her, not caring about the lethal strain that came with boosting the Killers.[16]Attributes
