History

One billion years ago, the Prosilicans were approached by the Watchers, back when they were known as the Luminous, and given their advanced technology so that they may achieve utopia. However, due to the Prosilicans lacking ethics they ended creating weapons of mass destruction and started the First War as they began conquering nearby planets, forcing the Watchers to intervene. The Watcher Emnu created the Ultimate Nullifier to stop the war,[1] which destroyed nine-tenth of the universe. This included the Prosilicans' world of Prosilicus which, along with the destroyed parts of the universe, was rendered a toxic wasteland known as the Barrens. Most of the Prosilicans were decimated, with the few surviving ones sealed in the Barrens, and as years went on, they began hatred towards the Watchers for destroying their civilization and causing their suffering.[2]

These Prosilicans reorganized into the Reckoning, a vast armada hellbent on getting their revenge on the Watchers and restart the First War by supplying various aggressive alien races with stolen Watcher technology.[2] The Reckoning also engaged with slavery as they forced powerful aliens to fight for them. One of these slaves was the Cormorant who would later come to serve the Helmsman.[3] Escalating the secret conflict, the Reckoning went to Obscura Minor to slaughter the entire Raj-Lek race and Qyre, the Silent Watcher, who was unable to alarm his fellow Watchers of the Prosilicans' return.[4] During the rise of the Cotati's Empyre, the Reckoning gave them the Watchers' weaponry to fight the newly formed Kree/Skrull Alliance, all part of their plan to plunge the cosmos into chaos.[5]

Following the end of the Empyre war, the Reckoning, under the leadership of Wrath, began organizing other warring races, like the Brotherhood of Badoon, the Annihilation Wave, the Zn'rx, the Xantha, the Mekkans and the Morani, into devastating the whole universe to pave way for them to claim the three Nexuses of All Realities, those being Earth's Forever Gate, the Shi'ar Empire's M'kraan Crystal and the Watchers' Apex of All Reality.[6] As the First War reignited, the embodiment of the universe, Eternity, was affected by all of this destruction, leading to him slowly dying. Wrath sent Rapture and Reject to lead the Morani into attacking the Shi'ar,[7] and Ruins to lead the Badoon into attacking Earth, first destroying the Moon where the recently resurrected Uatu the Watcher rested.[2]

Uatu survived the moon's destruction and explained to the Fantastic Four who the culprits behind the attack were, before the Silver Surfer arrived to tell them about the attacks incited by the Reckoning, like those on the Shi'ar and the Spyricans. To fight back against the Reckoning, the Fantastic Four split,[8] with Mr. Fantastic and The Thing going alongside She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts to assist the Shi'ar, the Invisible Woman secretly following Uatu to the Watchers' homeworld of Planet T-37X,[6] and the Human Torch going to assist the Spyricans. Despite their best efforts, Mr. Fantastic, Thing, She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts failed to protect the M'kraan Crystal from the Reckoning and were left trapped in the Barrens. Meanwhile, the Four's children, Franklin Richards, Valeria Richards, N'Kalla and Jo-Venn shut down the Forever Gate to prevent Ruin and the Badoon from claiming it.[9]

With the M'kraan Crystal in his possession, Wrath incorporated its fragments into his armor, and soon led all of the Reckoning into invading Planet T-37X to claim the Apex of All Reality. While they were en route to the Watchers' world, the Human Torch gathered various cosmic heroes which included the Unparalleled, the Imperial Guard, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Starjammers and Ego the Living Planet to oppose the Reckoning.[6] Upon arriving at the planet, Wrath found the Watchers in stasis and wanting them to feel the pain of his people tossed some of M'kraan Crystal's fragments to release the Barrens' toxic gas. However, Doctor Doom and the Cormorant equipped with the Gauntlet Armor arrived to stop them, and when that attempt failed Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Woman and Silver Surfer arrived immediately after, having reunited after escaping the Barrens. Wrath sent Rapture to claim the Ultimate Nullifier while he went for the Apex. Thankfully, the Thing defeated Rapture and handed the Nullifier over to Mr. Fantastic who used it on Wrath, erasing him from existence.[1]

Destruction, the mindless resurrected form of Galactus fused with the Destroyer Armor, arrived to consume Planet T-37X, leaving the cosmic heroes to help evacuate the Watchers over to Ego, except for Uatu who stayed behind. From the planet's destruction, Uatu, imbued with Apex's energy, emerged as "the One and Only Watcher," and with his new found power went to undo all of the damage caused by both the Watchers and the Prosilicans, restoring parts of the universe destroyed by the Nullifier which included the Barrens, renamed to the Borderlands. He also reformed the M'kraan Crystal, now also serving as a prison for Rapture, Ruins and Emnu, the ones responsible for the war. With Uatu making amends for the Watchers' actions and peace reestablished, the Reckoning dissolved shortly after.[10]
