A device that can be added to any gauntlet in Doctor Doom's Armor, it can freeze anything it touches into a block of ice.[1] Doom used it once to benumb Mr. Fantastic, who was trying to grapple him; then used it on a rope which he intended to use to lasso the Human Torch. However, the Thing prevented this plan, and then the Torch unfroze Mr. Fantastic.[2] Doom since kept two of these in his laboratory at Castle Doom, for occasional use.[1]
Doom again used his refrigeration unit against Mr. Fantastic - to freeze him whole - in a further one-to-one fight in Doom's New York laboratory. Richards had managed to short-circuit Doom's armor, preventing Doom from using most of its functionalities in combat; but the armor's reserve energy was enough to use this system to immobilize Mr. Fantastic long enough for Doom to activate another device, the Solartron, against other enemies. Richards however released himself soon afterward, making use of the air holes to worm out and weaken the block - and they resumed their fight until Doom was defeated.[3]
