History
In this timeline, Orchis was successful in its mission to destroy mutantkind, leaving only a few scattered survivors. At some point, Remy's wife Rogue died. In time, Orchis was wholly usurped by the machines, who continued to wage war against the X-Men while using their advanced technology to summon a dominion that could absorb them into its nigh omnipotent machine intellect.[1]
Knowing that the only hope of averting this lay in reseting their own timeline, the X-Men sought to find Mr. Sinister, since his Moira Engine would allow them to reset their timeline. Gambit and a team of X-Men embarked on a suicide mission at the Henry Gyrich Memorial Detention Center in order to secure access to the personality imprint of Feilong, a former Orchis associate who knew the location of Sinister.[1]
While the team was successful, despite heavy losses, they were unable to make contact with the rest of the X-Men to give them the information they had found. With no way out, Gambit used his powers to turn himself into a living bomb, blasting a path to the surface and allowing Mystique to give the X-Men Sinister's location.[1]
