Rhea is a member of the Titans a group of humanoid giant beings that hail from the pocket dimension known as Olympus. She was worshipped by the Humans of Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Being married to Cronus made her Queen of Olympus.

History

Early Life[]

Born hundreds of thousands years ago, Rhea was the daughter of Ouranos and Gaea. At the urging of their mother, her youngest brother, Cronus, overthrew their father's rule by fatally wounding him. After being chosen to lead the Titans as the new Olympian Sky Father, Cronus took Rhea as his wife. However, the dying Ouranos prophesied that Cronus would likewise be overthrown by one of his own children.[1]

Offspring[]

As a result, upon the birth of each of his own children, Cronus had the infant imprisoned in Tartarus, the most dismal section of the extra dimensional underworld known as Hades. The offspring he sent there were Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. Appalled at the mistreatment of their children, Rhea concealed her sixth pregnancy from him and secretly gave birth to Zeus on Mount Lycaeum in Arcadia, an area of the land now known as Greece. Rhea gave the infant Zeus to the safekeeping of Gaea who hid him on the island of Crete.[2]

Titanomachy[]

When her son Zeus grew to adulthood he poisoned Cronus to vomit up his siblings and led them in a 10-year war with the Titans known as the Titanomachy. Zeus won the war and imprisoned all the Titans including Cronus in Tartarus. He let his mother Rhea and a few of the female Titans who did not fight against him go free. Her son then took his place as the new Olympian skyfather.[2]
