Personal History
Robert Bloch of Milwaukee started out as an occasional non-pro reader.
He was a fan of Robert E. Howard's stories, including King Kull, Solomon Kane, or the "The Valley of the Worm", but disliked Conan, whom he called "Conan the Cimmerian Chipmunk" or "poor old Conan the Cluck". Bloch's vehement letters to Weird Tales were often published, possibly due the editor, Farnsworth Wright, who may had relished the feud-by-letters-page.[1]Work History
Notes
- There is two counterparts to Robert Bloch on Earth-616:
- Robert, originally created by Robert Bloch as the nameless narrator in his story "The Shambler from the Stars" (September, 1935), adapted in Journey Into Mystery (Vol. 2) #3 (February, 1973), where he was named (as a reference to Robert Bloch).
- Robert Blake, created by H.P. Lovecraft in his story "The Haunter in the Dark" (December, 1936), adapted in Journey Into Mystery (Vol. 2) #4 (February, 1973), was based on Robert Bloch.
- In the letters' page "Swords and Scrolls" of Savage Sword of Conan #230 (February, 1995), Roy Thomas' "Roy's Ramblings" consisted of an eulogy to Robert Bloch, then recently passed away, and of his relation to Robert E. Howard's work, including his dislike for Conan.
