Robert Jermyn was a renowned anthropologist, also like his grandfather fascinated by the stories about a race of hybrid ape men (not realizing that he himself was a product of the union between a human, his grandfather Sir Wade Jermyn, and a female of the race of ape men). After meeting an explorer who brought him evidence of that strange race, Robert went mad strangling the explorer and killing his three sons, including Nevil who died defending his young son Alfred. Probably Robert carried out the massacre not in the grip of madness but in consideration of the revelations he had from the explorer and with full lucidity he tried to eliminate the result of the hybridization of which he and his descendants were the product, but not succeeding because Alfred was saved.
