History
Robert Plesko had a history as a mercenary, fighting alongside Marc Spector in the trenches as the Karnak Cowboys. He was drawn to Marc out of a desire to watch the violence the latter committed, and when he died Plesko went to work for Raul Bushman, his killer.[2] He eventually left the mercenary lifestyle and became a practicing psychotherapist. Because of their history, Spector felt comfortable recruiting Plesko to his network of informants, the Shadow Cabinet, who assisted him in his role as Moon Knight.[3]
As "Sigmund", Plesko provided psychological profiles for Moon Knight's targets, beginning with his own brother, Randall Spector.[4] Sigmund was the only other member of the Shadow Cabinet allowed access to Moon Knight's Shadowkeep, except for his physician, Mercy. Spector attempted to begin psychotherapy with Plesko, although their first hurdle was him being unwilling to even reveal his true identity.[1] Marc Spector eventually outed himself as Moon Knight to Sigmund, although Plesko admitted he had already deduced that himself.[3]
After Zodiac's imprisonment in the Myrmidon, Plesko was called in to do a psych evaluation on the madman. While both could profile the other, Plesko gave Zodiac his mask as a show of trust, which the previous doctors didn't do, and was able to make some headway with him.[5]
Motivated by a desire to start committing violence himself, Plesko took up the mantle of the Black Spectre and hatched a plan to drive the entirety of Manhattan insane with help from Sarnak and Vibro.[6][2] Through Sarnak, he brainwashed Herb and Sheila Hollister to kill members of the Shadow Cabinet, blowing up his apartment to make it seem as though he was one of their victims.[7] He tried to recruit Morpheus, but when Markham declined the Spectre's men fatally shot him.[8]
Keith Burroughs, a guard at the Myrmidon, went to the Black Spectre for help. As payment, be broadcast Sarnak's sound through the PA system. In the chaos Plesko freed Zodiac, the former Black Spectre Ryan Trent, and others to help him. At the same time, he had 8-Ball lure Moon Knight into a trap where people he had recently hurt like Microchip, Manslaughter Marsdale, and Waxman would kill him, but 8-Ball turned on them at the last second and saved Moon Knight.[9] Right before they activated the machine to spread Sarnak's madness, Moon Knight and the Midnight Mission arrived. Plesko revealed his identity to Moon Knight after fatally shooting him, but he blew himself up to destroy the transmitter. Zodiac met Plesko at their base, ready to torture him as revenge for allowing Moon Knight to die and ruining Zodiac's plans.[10]See Also
