Origin	Robert Reynolds was startled from sleep in the middle of a lightning storm. Driven by fractured recollections of an unfamiliar past, he rescued a hidden bottle from his library. Teetering just beyond his confused grasp, visions of a mysterious mortal enemy had begun to chip away at the barriers to his forgotten former life. As Reynolds drank from the bottle, he felt an energy course through him like that of a million exploding suns. The splintered images of his prior existence began to coalesce. He remembered himself as a hero, the Sentry, Golden Guardian of Good, fighting alongside the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Before his fall from grace, Reynolds had conquered time and space itself. He was omnipotent; he was immortal. He was the Sentry.

Little is detailed about Sentry’s life before becoming infected with the zombie contagion, however it can be presumed that it followed much the same path as Sentry (Earth-616).

Somehow, Sentry finds himself infected and craving the taste of flesh at the gates of heaven. Surrounded by the others making their way to heaven, he decides to have a snack, and begins to chow down on the ascended populace. Suddenly though, he is faced by a man with a chainsaw, and a double-barreled shotgun, who then discharges the gun in Sentry’s face.

Being an extremely powerful being, this has little affect, and so in his anger punches the annoying man so hard that he rips the fabric of reality, and his assailant falls through.

Whether Sentry too is pulled through the rip, or whether he see the Earth below, and follows Ash through is unclear. But he crashes through purple lightning to earth in New York, where he commences his main course.

Infecting the Avengers

Alerted, the Avengers, arrive on the scene to see what can be done. They are, unfortunately, no match for this zombified Sentry, and Colonel America, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, and Hawkeye, become the first meta-humans on earth to fall prey to the contagion.

Together, they set about decimating the city.

The Sentry's abilities derive from an experimental serum that creates a phase-shift in his molecules, causing each atom to step an instant ahead of the current timeline. The serum induces a photosynthetic reaction, resulting in a hyperstate of consciousness. Though most of his powers and their limits are still unknown, he has displayed several abilities similarly possessed by DC's Superman.

Trivia

This version of The Sentry was originally meant to be portrayed as Superman. The art specifically had his costume torn at the chest to remove the "S" symbol and called for a blue and red color scheme. Editors, however, fearing repercussions, called for a change at the last minute.
