History
Origins[]
Robbie Reyes grew up in a vibrant but under-resourced neighborhood in East Los Angeles. The triumphs and challenges he experienced helped him develop a firm sense of his priorities: family, friends, and customized hotrods. Most important in the “family” category will always be his disabled brother, Gabe, who Robbie helped raise, however, his other priorities were forced to shift when Robbie became possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance whom he called Sparky.
Joining the Midnight Suns[]
Robbie was recruited into the Midnight Suns by the Caretaker and Magik after he got in a scuffle and speed chase with some goons back in Los Angeles.[1] He had time enough to bond with the other young Suns — Nico Minoru, Scarlet Witch, Magik — as well as Blade who was older than them, before tragedy struck. A ritual by Wanda went wrong and vaporized Agatha Harkness, Caretaker's long-time love. Though Wanda was not directly at fault, Caretaker still sent her away to Doctor Strange, something the other Suns disapproved of.
Robbie greets the resurrected Hunter
The Avengers arrived at the Abbey and were introduced to the Midnight Suns and the Caretaker. Robbie and the others stood by and watched as Sarah and Strange resurrected Hunter, Lilith's child and the only one to have ever defeated her. The Hunter joined joined the Midnight Suns in their fight against Lilith, and developed a friendship with Robbie, who appreciated not being seen as "one of the kids." Robbie also got along well with the new recruit Peter Parker, the two of them organizing Shop Class together.[2]
Blade and Robbie are left behind.
The four Midnight Suns and Hunter all shared the same dream of Scarlet Witch appearing and calling them by name. Fed up with Caretaker and the Avengers not doing anything to get Wanda back, this prompted them to attempt a rescue against Caretaker's wishes. Nico swiped Caretaker's spellbook and found a spell that could potentially track Wanda. Nico secured the door to the Abbey chapel as the group arranged themselves in a circle on the floor. She told everyone to maintain concentration on the spell as she began chanting, with the other four joining in. Black smoke emanated from the mirror, causing both Robbie and Blade to cease chanting while Nico began floating in the air. Hunter seized the Staff of One and shattered the mirror, creating a vortex that sucked Hunter, Nico, and Magik, leaving Blade and Robbie behind. The other three returned after dark, having barely made out with their lives.[2]
The Spirits of Vengeance[]
Robbie gets a chance to meet his hero.
Caretaker, Tony Stark, and Doctor Strange explained to Robbie that they needed him to summon Johnny Blaze. Doctor Strange revealed that the Cuffs of Cyttorak would enable the Mirror Table to access the link Robbie shared with the Spirit of Vengeance and locate Blaze. Upon Strange attaching the Cuffs, Robbie transformed into Ghost Rider, causing the Mirror Table's surface to display mystical flames as Blaze briefly appeared before vanishing, and a team was sent to his location.[2]
The Ghost Rider faces the demons.
Blaze was racing on his motorcycle while being pursued by Hydra when Hunter and Robbie arrived in the Hell Ride. As they leapt across the canyon, glowing green chains shot upward from below, latching onto Blaze and dragging him down into the depths. Blaze found himself chained to a rock when the others reached him. He managed to break free, but when Hunter demanded that Blaze surrender the Parchment of Power, a horde of Soulless demons appeared. Blaze claimed he didn't know whom they served — neither Lilith nor Chthon — then pulled out the Parchment and began reading from it, casting a spell that engulfed the area in fire. As the flames subsided, Blaze he jumped onto his motorcycle and sped away, promising to be in touch.[2]
Robbie receives the Parchment of Power.
Blaze contacted the Abbey, demanded to speak with Robbie, and instructed him to bring the Midnight Suns along. As Hunter, Ghost Rider, and Magik prepared to depart, Magik detected something peculiar about the current state of Limbo while opening the portal, prompting her to remain behind and investigate. Hunter and Ghost Rider discovered Blaze waiting beside a church, where he revealed to have formulated a plan and insisted they follow his lead without questioning. Hunter expressed resistance, buy Blaze placate them by producing the Parchment of Power from his own chest and transferring it into Robbie's body. As Blaze led them inside the church, they found themselves transported to Limbo instead.[2]
Robbie is furious with his hero for betraying them to Mephisto.
Mephisto on the throne welcomed their arrival before Blaze disclosed his betrayal — having struck a bargain to abandon Hunter in Limbo to prevent the prophecy's fulfillment — yet when Robbie refused to depart with him, Mephisto revealed the deal guaranteed safe passage solely for Blaze and teleported him away. Hunter and Ghost Rider faced Mephisto when a voice interrupted from behind — Magik appeared seated upon Mephisto's former throne, and in her fury, she transported Hunter and Ghost Rider back while staying behind to "catch up" with her tormentor.[2]
Robbie watches Johnny Blaze sacrifice himself for him.
Tony Stark planned to destroy the Parchment of Power with the Gamma Accelerator at Los Diablos Missile Base. Ghost Rider and Iron Man arrived at Los Diablos ahead of the others to prepare, with Iron Man readying the Gamma Cannon while Robbie circled the area maintaining a safe distance until the Cannon was prepared for activation. When the others arrived, they Sabretooth and a horde of Lilin descending upon them. As Ghost Rider attempted to reach the designated location, the Lilin overturned his vehicle. Robbie lay immobilized when Johnny Blaze appeared and dispatched the Lilin with his shotgun, before reclaiming the Parchment of Power from Robbie. In an act of sacrifice, Blaze propelled his motorcycle directly into the Gamma Cannon's path to destroy the page.[2]
Robbie organized a memorial service for Johnny Blaze, attended by the Midnight Suns, Peter, Logan, and Doctor Strange as the sole Avenger. Logan bluntly characterized Blaze as difficult but effective, while Robbie described his journey from initial idolization of Blaze to bitter resentment, until Blaze's ultimate self-sacrifice to save Robbie's life changed his perspective once more; he concluded by expressed genuine gratitude for having known him. Ghost Rider joined the others for the final confrontation with Lilith at the Temple of Chthon, which ended with the threat being dealt with, at the cost of losing Hunter to the Darkhold.[2]Attributes
