Early Life
Roger Gocking bought the rights to name Porcupine and the Porcupine Armor from Hobgoblin after the original Porcupine, Alex Gentry's, death.[1]
Trial of the Tinkerer
Roger Gocking was present during the trial of the Tinkerer.[2]
Daughters of the Dragon
The second Porcupine has been in conflict with Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, who attacked him while looking for information in a bar. He lost.[3]
Thunderbolts
During Civil War, Porcupine was captured by MACH IV and coerced into joining the Thunderbolts[4], and later fought with them against a mob of normal people empowered by the Universal Wellspring.[5]
Doomwar
During Dr. Doom's war with Wakanda over their Vibranium supply, Gocking was employed by the Broker in Mexico to defend one of Doom's outposts.[6] He defended it from the Dora Milaje and Fantastic Four.[7]
Roger Manning
Gocking became a target for Scourge. [8] While working at a Baltimore shipyard, Roger Gocking now lived as Roger Manning. When he left his workplace, Captain America arrived an knocked him out of the way of stray bullets.[9] Captain America told Roger Gocking to hide deeper inside the dock while he goes to face Scourge.[10]
Masters of Evil
He joined the Masters of Evil.[11]
Supervillains Anonymous
He later attended a support group called Villains Anonymous that was held at a church and also attended by Boomerang, Hippo, Grizzly, Dr. Bong, Looter, Mirage, and others.[12] At another Supervillains Anonymous meeting, Grizzly and Looter talk about their run-ins with Spider-Man.[13]
Spider-Woman
Some time later, Gocking is forced into committing crimes for Lady Caterpillar.[14] She had abducted his girlfriend, Olivia, and their daughter, Kalie.[15] When Jess went to rescue them, they were living in a small community of the families of henchmen and minor supervillains who wanted out of that life. [16] Jess defeats the town leader Cat, who herself was the wife of a heavily abusive minor engineer/supervillain, and promises not to involve the authorities if they stop blackmailing their supervillains. [17] Roger, thanking Jess, asks to be her sidekick to turn over a new leaf to be a better father to his baby girl. [18]
Porcupine was approached by Hobgoblin in order to join up with his villain group only to learn from Porcupine that he has gone straight. Hobgoblin did not take that info lightly and had the villains with him beat up and strip Porcupine. Then Hobgoblin threw a Pumpkin Bomb at him, which Ben sees having hid in a vent earlier.[19] After Jess goes on the warpath, Roger survived having worn Jess' old alien maternity protection shirt, which Roger had as an undershirt. Roger shaved his beard and used an old cash stash to follow Jess from afar in case she needed back up. After saving Jess from an ambush, he explains his situation.
