History

Ross Holden is the Director of personnel for the only facility of Deterrence Research Corporation (DRC) in the west coast, near Santa Ana, California. Trying to present a friendly façade for his ruthless and greedy employer, Holden claimed that they were involved in research and development, focusing on "affirmative action programs" and highlighting their public service record, and refuted those who accused DRC of manufacturing weapons of simply believing their opponents' propaganda. The DRC was a weapons manufacturer involved in several illegal activities; it is unclear whether Holden openly lied about it, or was kept out of the loop.[1]

Holden received prospective employee Ariadne Hyde (who was really superheroine Spider-Woman using an alias to infiltrate in the center so as to rescue a prisoner). Spider-Woman's superpowers including an uncontrolled pheromone release that caused Holden to openly flirt with his new professional acquaintance, and she used that in her favor to try and obtain information on the DRC, prompting Holden to give her an unauthorised tour through the facilities - except for buildings that Holden himself was not authorised to enter (and which gave Spider-Woman information on where the prisoner would be held). Before leaving for a meeting, Holden smooched "Hyde", suggesting that her career in DRC would thrive if she kept Holden personally happy. Spider-Woman was disgusted at Holden and got rid of "Hyde"'s clothing and identity before he could be back.[1]

Personality

While Spider-Woman considered Holden a distateful creep due to his unrequested romantic advances on her, it is also true that Holden was affected by Spider-Woman's own pheromones at that time, and his personality in normal conditions was not observed.[1]
