History
The son of King Azzari the Wise, and the brother of T'Chaka. S'Yan was a great thinker and fighter, with strength and speed on par with his brother.
In their youths, S'Yan often defended the decisions of his brother and father from skeptics such as Cangza.[2] After T'Chaka's assassination by Ulysses Klaw, S'Yan ascended to the throne and became Black Panther. Though it was never his intention to be King, his hope being that T'Chaka would sit on the throne instead, he ruled justly. As king, S'Yan put his adopted nephew Hunter in charge of the Hatut Zeraze special forces.[3]At the tournament to decide the next Panther to rule Wakanda, S'Yan was defeated by T'Challa and happily stepped down, so his nephew could rule. He remained one of the leading advisers to the Panther after his defeat.[1]
Staying by his nephew's side, he was killed during the events of the Doomwar when Doctor Doom ordered for his soldiers to gun down Queen Ramonda and he stepped in the way to protect her.[4]
Afterlife and legacy[]
S'Yan and his brother T'Chaka were among the former Black Panthers whose spirits could be summoned for counsel by T'Challa as the King of the Necropolis, alongside older Panthers like Negus, Mamadou Fall, and Iya Nehanda.[5] His name was also among the names of former Wakandan rulers used by explorers of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, who named the S'Yaan Expanse after him.[6]Attributes
