History

Reportedly constructed at no little cost, the space station owned by S.H.I.E.L.D. was used by the Avengers as an orbiting launchpad for a specialized space shuttle that would take them to the Skrulls' home world in the Andromeda Galaxy.[6]

Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, S.H.I.E.L.D. was forced to abandon the space platform.[3] Political manipulation by members of the Council of the Chosen resulted in the space platform falling under the control of Stephan Lang's Project Armageddon. Intended for merely studying the presence of mutants on Earth, the project was corrupted by Lang,[7] who used the space station as the secret headquarters for a small army of faulty Sentinels he constructed with the intention of kidnapping and imprisoning mutants, beginning with members of the X-Men. With the aid of Peter Corbeau and Starcore, the X-Men raided the space station, destroying the Sentinels and rescuing their teammates.[8] Extensive damage caused the platform to be abandoned by project personnel. Lang's comatose body was later found by S.H.I.E.L.D.[9]

After it was reclaimed and repaired by S.H.I.E.L.D., the space station was almost destroyed by a solar flare Graviton pulled from the Sun to destroy the city of Attilan in the Himalayas, but Black Bolt used his particle/energy channeling powers to create a counter-wave of energy to snuff it out before it could hit the station.[1]

Corbeau and the other members of his Starcore Project briefly used the station to continue studying the Sun. While they were there, Corbeau requested the help of the X-Men in resuscitating the station's power system.[5]
