History

The SQ1 Deep Sea Attack Craft was an unmanned, remote-controlled, squid-shaped submarine vehicle developed by Cybertek Systems, Inc.. The tentacles could be used in combat against human-sized targets to entangle them, and the vehicle was reasonably armored, althought it was vulnerable to a close-range impact of a plasma gun. The SQ1 could also be used as an aircraft carrier of sorts, as three Dragonfly piloted flying vehicles could be launched from the SQ1, underwater-to-air.[1]

The SQ1 was first seen when Cybertek sent its cyborg contractor Mainframe to apprehend cyborg fugitive Deathlok, who had been tracked to Coney Island. Mainframe, controlling the operation from a van, initially sent agents in Terminal armors after Deathlok but, when they failed, Mainframe released the SQ1 and made it shoot Dragonflies One to Three to intercept Deathlok. Mainframe's superior Harlan Ryker complained that the operation was anything but discreet, but Mainframe insisted that he only needed a few minutes with the Dragonflies and the SQ1. The Dragonflies caused Deathlok to fall in the water, where he had to wrestle the immensely bigger SQ1. Deathlok considered shooting at the center of the tentacles with a plasma gun, even if the damage could also affect him, and decided to do so as he was in need of oxygen. The shoot disabled the SQ1, and allowed Deathlok to reach the surface.[1]

Many of Cybertek's designs and products ended up owned by AIM soon afterward when Cybertek was dismantled,[2] while other assets were sold by Roxxon to corporations like Magnum Munitions.[3]
