History

Sterns was a scientist operating from a small lab in New York who, under the alias "Mr. Blue," came into E-Mail contact with Dr. Bruce Banner. Sterns apparently agreed to help Banner with his affliction, Emailing him advice on certain cures to his unique form of Gamma poisoning. It is unknown whether Sterns, at this point, was aware of the true nature of Banner's affliction, which caused Banner to transform into a monstrous, rage-driven creature when angered.

Eventually, Banner grew tired of pursuing dead ends, and, with the help of a friend, came to Sterns' lab in person. Sterns revealed to Banner that he had been reproducing the blood samples Banner had been sending him, a fact which distressed Banner. Sterns was willing to help Banner, but military intervention thwarted the trio, causing Bruce, Betty, and Sterns to be taken into military custody. Sterns was questioned by the military about his experiments, but then captured by a rogue troop known as Emil Blonsky, who wanted to be empowered as Banner was.

Under threat of death, Sterns helped Blonsky, transforming him into The Abomination. There was a scuffle, as Sterns became the first victim of The Abomination's wrath, suffering from a head injury. As he fell under one of his shelves, a sample of Banner's blood fell into the cut on his head, causing his forehead to mutate and swell. Seeing his gamma mutation, he smiled for now, as he put it, he had become like a god.
