History

The Santo Angelo Contras were a paramilitary organization formed in order to fight a communist uprising in the Central American country of Santo Angelo, and led by general Accardo. They were illegally funded through drug dealing with the Costa mob, arranged by San Lorenzo diplomat Hector Montoya through Forrest Hunt. Their cause was eventually referred to, by Montoya, as having been "lost". These events indirectly led to Frank Castle's family's murder, which turned Castle into the Punisher.

Trivia

• The concept of illegally supplying contras with weapons was inspired by the Iran-Contra Affair, while the entire dealing seems to have been inspired by allegations of CIA drug dealings with organized crime elements in order to finance the Nicaraguan Contras.
