History

In this reality, Angel and Marvel Girl developed a relationship, resulting in Cyclops becoming further withdrawn and, ultimately, obsessed with the X-Men's missions. After Xavier apparently lost his powers due to a concussion, Cyclops became downright insufferable, questioning his teammates' resolve and denigrating of their competence while on missions, resulting in him having to be rescued by Angel during a battle aboard Asteroid M. He reached the breaking point when Xavier revealed he had only feigned loss of his powers to see how well the X-Men would do without him, with Cyclops berating him for treating the team's goals as if it were a game. Xavier thus named the Beast as his deputy over Cyclops, citing that Cyclops had lost his sense of perspective and thus could not be an effective leader. Seeing this as the final betrayal, Cyclops angrily quit the X-Men and blindly left for New York City. There, he was confronted by Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, who had somehow learned of his impatience with his teammates and offered him a place with the Brotherhood. Feeling that he could have been a great leader if only the X-Men had seen things his way and taken direction, Cyclops accepted an offer as Magneto's second-in-command, an offer of carte blanche to rebuild Magneto's agents as a great army for the mutant cause. Uncaring whether Magneto was sincere in his offer to share power with him, Cyclops nevertheless accepted it and joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.[1]
