History
The early life of Scott Summers largely mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart.
Origins[]
Scott Summers was one of the first X-Men, a group of mutant heroes created by Professor X with the purpose of defending a world that hated and feared them.[1] Scott began a relationship with his teammate Jean Grey. During a mission, Jean was forced to sacrifice herself to save her team. Her anguished telepathic cries attracted the Phoenix Force, an Elder of the Universe that had come to Earth so that it could die. Drawn by Jean's love for Cyclops, the Phoenix bonded to her, becoming a binary being.[2]
The Phoenix created a psychic rapport with Cyclops, and the two became closer than any humans could be, sharing their minds and souls with each other. After a brief and chaotic period, the Phoenix fulfilled its purpose and died. Jean was later resurrected, though the love that they had paled in comparison to what Cyclops had shared with the Phoenix.[2]
Mutation of Humanity[]
Following the mutation of humanity, the X-Men were forced to contend with rising anti-mutant sentiment, as the governments of the world desperately tried to stop the mutations. Some blamed the X-Men, and the world's governments unleashed the Sentinels to round up those mutating. The Sentinels were defeated by former X-Men foe Magneto.[1] Another blow was dealt to the X-Men when their founder Charles Xavier and every other telepath on Earth died following the psychic birth of the Skull.
The X-Men disbanded, and Scott would retire from the life of a super-hero. His relationship with Jean Grey ended around this time as well, as she left him to pursue a romance with Wolverine. The only X-Man to remain in touch with Scott was Angel.[3][1]
Earth X[]
Scott seemingly settled down in New York, and would eventually be sought out by members of Daredevil's circus freakshow, who were sent by Captain America to seek Scott out for training to become a new team of X-Men. Agreeing to teach them, he became their mentor under the name of "Mr. S" and began training them for the coming battle against the Skull.[1]
Following the Skull's defeat, Scott would continue to train the X-Men until they became an efficient fighting team. His pupil Charmer developed a crush on Scott, which he was seemingly oblivious of.
Universe X[]
Three years after the formation of the group, and after the death of Captain America, Scott and the X-Men joined Mar-Vell in his quest to collect items of power to kill Death and build a Paradise in the Realm of the Dead.
Scott would travel to HEL Laboratories, there he would meet the Ant Men. Their leader Marionette taught him to re-activate his psychic rapport with the Phoenix, who now dwelled in the Realm of the Dead. This allowed the two to see through the other's eyes.[4]
He would later travel to Egypt, the Moon and finally Wakanda. There Scott and the X-Men would stay behind to help his former teammate Storm and her husband the Black Panther relocate the nation of Wakanda to the Savage Land following continued attacks by an army of Wendigos. Scott would lead the X-Men into a final battle against the Wendigos (revealed to be the Multiple Man) which led to the destruction of the creature. Scott and the X-Men would remain in the Savage Land and help the Wakandans rebuild their nation there. This would briefly be interrupted by an attack orchestrated by Belasco and the Dire Wraiths. Scott and the others would be saved by Mar-Vell and his friends.[5] [6]
Paradise X[]
When Mar-Vell finally succeeded in killing Death, it caused a new problem: nobody on Earth could die, and soon hospitals all over the world began filling up with the mortally wounded. Scott and the X-Men would relocate to Latveria and aid Reed Richards in easing the suffering of the undying. Scott would relay the problems on Earth to the Phoenix Force who had since became a member of the Avenging Host in the realm of Paradise. The Phoenix herself grew increasingly suspicious of Mar-Vell, who was growing increasingly aloof.[7]
Scott was also present during the wedding of Medusa and King Britain, which served as an impromptu reunion for the X-Men. This reunion was marred when Scott realized that the Sean Cassidy present (really Mephisto in disguise) at the reunion was an impostor as Banshee had died years ago.[2]
As the heroes on Earth also began to grow suspicious of Mar-Vell, they decided to travel into Paradise via the Negative Zone to learn the truth. However, as Reed Richards was traveling into Paradise, Phoenix seemingly realised her mistake. She contacted Cyclops again, revealing the nature of Paradise as an extension of Mar-Vell himself and that Mar-Vell had always known that his love would change her and that she would agree with him in the end.[8]
Rather than a bid for personal power, Mar-Vell's Paradise was in fact a shield made to protect the universe from the meddling of the Celestials and the Elders of the Universe. Mar-Vell passed his omniscience to Reed before departing on a quest to find the first, core reality from which all others had emerged.[9]Attributes
