Synopsis for "Secret Invasion (Part IV)"

As Queen Veranke taunts an ailing Tony Stark with the knowledge that the human race is falling to the Skrulls, scenes of chaos from the ongoing invasion unfold. Reed Richards is being tortured, stretched to his body’s limits by a machine in front of an audience aboard a Skrull ship. Abigail Brand and other fellow S.W.O.R.D. agents float in space, dead or close to it within their personal life support systems. The Sentry flees Earth in the midst of a mental breakdown.

Ms. Marvel returns to Manhattan from the Savage Land and is immediately set upon by Super-Skrulls. She is joined in the fight by Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors, but it quickly becomes clear that Fury and his team are only there to rescue the Young Avengers and Initiative members caught in the first wave. Once the Warriors have grabbed the downed heroes, Fury turns his weapon on Ms. Marvel - who he believes to be a Skrull - and his team teleports away. A stunned Carol Danvers is overrun by Super-Skrulls led, to her shock, by Hank Pym.

In the Savage Land, Black Widow overhears Veranke, in the guise of Spider-Woman, telling Tony Stark her true identity and that he is, in fact, a Skrull sleeper agent by the name of Kl’riki Dulu. Before Natasha can make her next move, Beast and Phoenix suddenly appear behind her. Natasha opens fire without hesitation and kills them, revealing both as Skrulls. Veranke uses the commotion to escape, leaving Natasha with an ill and shell-shocked Stark. Natasha tells Tony not to believe Veranke’s lies and injects him with adrenaline to get him back on his feet. Wolverine arrives on the scene and Natahsa, taking no chances, shoots him several times before asking for “the word” to prove he’s not a Skrull (the word is “carrot sticks”). Satisfied, Natasha tells Wolverine to go on the hunt for Jessica Drew, but Logan convinces her they need to leave. Tony says they’ll need Reed Richards to win this fight, and Natasha asks where he is.

Abigail Brand, having survived the destruction of the Peak, floats through space towards a Skrull warship. She locates an entry point and sneaks aboard, where she finds a wall of screens broadcasting the Battle of Manhattan. On one screen she sees Mr. Fantastic being tortured, but before she can act, she is confronted by two Skrulls.

Meanwhile, Maria Hill and a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents hold Edwin Jarvis, who has revealed himself as a Skrull impostor, at gunpoint on the deck of Hill’s downed Helicarrier. Jarvis demands Hill surrender on behalf of the human race. A defiant Hill refuses, but the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents surrounding him and Hill reveal themselves to be Skrulls as well, turning the tide in a split second against the S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

Back in New York, The Hood rallies his gang of super-villains to join the fight against the Skrulls. Elsewhere, as a group of Super-Skrulls bears down on civilians gathered in Central Park West, a flash of lightning strikes the aliens down. Someone wearing the uniform and bearing the shield of Captain America sees the source of the lightning - a figure wielding a familiar hammer - and prepares to join the fray.
