Synopsis for "Secret Invasion: Part VII"
Central Park is a battleground. The combined might of the Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Secret Warriors, the Young Avengers, the Initiative, and The Hood’s gang of super-villains is taking on the entirety of the Skrulls’ ground forces with the fate of the human race in the balance. As Mr. Fantastic and Queen Veranke each direct their allies to target the other, Wasp makes a beeline towards Criti Noll, the Skrull who has been impersonating her ex-husband, Hank Pym, for months. Before she can land a blow, however, Noll grows to Giant-Man size and towers over the battlefield, his true Skrull face revealed at last. Nick Fury and Norman Osborn open fire on Noll while Stature evens the odds and lands a giant-sized strike. Bullseye, from his perch in a tree, shoots Noll with a rocket launcher, blowing out his eye and causing the giant Skrull to crash to the ground.
While Spider-Man, Thor, Venom, Captain America, Hawkeye, and others are engaged with various Super-Skrulls at ground level, Iron Man is forced to retreat and repair his armor. Mr. Fantastic is set upon by a number of Skrulls in the shape of his wife, the Invisible Woman, but is saved by the Secret Warriors. Wolverine locates Veranke among the chaos and is able to embed his claws into her shoulder, but Veranke overwhelms him with Jessica Drew’s venom blasts. Spider-Man reassures Iron Fist that things are not as bad as they seem since Uatu the Watcher hasn’t shown up; however, before he can even finish that thought, Uatu appears, looming above the fray.
Jessica Jones is at Avengers Tower watching news coverage of the battle with baby Danielle and Jarvis, whose identity as a Skrull impostor remains undiscovered. Jessica tells Jarvis that she needs to join the fight and asks him to keep an eye on the baby. Suddenly, a sonic boom rattles the air and a massive fireball crashes into the middle of the battle, scattering heroes and Skrulls alike. Noh-Varr emerges from the flames and proclaims that in the name of Mar-Vell, he is joining the fight against the Skrulls.
The battle rages on. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage fight side by side, and Clint Barton, seeing Hawkeye wounded, picks up Kate’s bow and takes aim. He looses an arrow that finds its target, hitting Veranke straight through the jaw. Seeing his empress fall, a gravely wounded Criti Noll recognizes that the Skrulls have lost and presses a button on his glove. Wasp yells out in pain and begins to grow uncontrollably. She is suddenly struck with the memory of Hank Pym giving her a new growth formula weeks earlier, and realizes it was sabotaged. Jan’s body begins to emit biological energy that spreads and starts to weaken everyone on the battlefield. Jarvis-Skrull looks on from Avengers Tower, telling baby Danielle that the Skrulls were destined to win for one reason: they are willing to die to ensure their god’s prophecy comes true.
