History
Sekmeht Anubar (later Conoway) was the daughter of archeologist Anwar Anubar. When she was a teenager, she entered a temple in Egypt's Valley of Kings, leading to an encounter with Ozymandias.[2] At some point, her father would put his wife - Sekmeht's mother - into suspended animation. [1]
She would later join her father at Elysian Enterprises, helping to find either the schematics or a working piece of an ancient extraterrestrial vessel, said to have extended the life of Chinese ruler, Garbha-Hsien. Over the course of four years, Sekmeht and Elysian Enterprises tracked down 11 of 12 temples built to Hsien's children. In the eighth tomb, they uncovered a scroll detailing unique safeguards within each temple.
Upon locating the twelfth, attempts to enter were thwarted by these safeguards. However, Gambit effortlessly slipped through the traps to steal the guarded item - a type of highly advance gauntlet. The Elysian Guards attempted to intercept Gambit and capture him, but he fled, knocking Sekmeht from a high platform in the ensuing battle.
Acting quickly, Gambit managed to catch her in time, introducing himself and charming the archeologist[3] - a memory later exploited by Fontanelle.[2]
Sekmeht later encountered Gambit again when her father sent her after the Momentary Princess, a mysterious "jewel" that appeared in the same place in Leipzig, Germany [4] every 27-29 years for a few minutes and offered glimpses into the past and future. They were not the only two after the Momentary Princess: The children of Baron von Strucker, who had originally discovered the Princess during World War I, were also after the jewel.[5]
However, Sekmeht, Andrea, and Andreas von Strucker failed to take into account Earth's orbital drift, leading to Gambit reaching the jewel first. A fight ensued, and none of the interested parties were able to claim it.[5]
Later, Gambit and Sekmeht found themselves competing once again, this time for the Tomorrow Stone, which Gambit needed to help a de-aging Spat and Sekmeht needed to save her mother from her suspended animation. Sekmeht ultimately obtained the Tomorrow Stone, but chose to give it to Spat to save her life. Sekmeht set out once more to search for another solution to help her mother.[1]
The Sunset Dawn[]
It wasn't long before Gambit went to her with another favor, this time for help figuring out how to travel through time.
The reason the Thieves Guild had sent Gambit after the Momentary Princess was because they possessed a picture of the current Gambit living in 1891. Jean-Luc LeBeau and Tante Mattie detailed how Gambit somehow managed to travel through time and affect both their lives and how Anwar Anubar helped Baron von Strucker locate the jewel in the past.[6]
Along with the face changing Mutant the Courier and the Mengo Brothers, Sekmeht and Gambit headed deep into Latveria to use the time traveling devices in Doctor Doom's castle. However, upon entering the castle, Sekmeht ran into several Doombots. They fled deeper into the castle until Sekmeht managed to locate the Time Platform. Working quickly with the Doombots closed in, she set Gambit's coordinates for London, 1891.[6]
Before he teleported, Gambit grabbed the Courier and commanded the Mengo Brothers to protect Sek, which they demonstrated in the ensuing battle against the Doombots.[6] However, she was unable to set up a retrieval for Gambit and the Courier, resulting in the two being stuck in the past.[7]
Sekmeht and the Mengo brothers managed to steal a transport and escape, but crashed near the Viscayan Mountains that bordered Latveria and Symkaria. They hid in the Folding City, a place of spatial anomaly, where they remained trapped for at least six weeks.[8]
Rogue followed the group to Doomstadt after hearing of Gambit's disappearance. She confronted Anwar, who provided her with tech locked on to Sekmeht's genetic tag. Rushing off to the Stryfe-controlled Latveria, Rogue located Sek and the Mengo brothers in the Folding City where they had been on the run from the Exalted One, the former head of security at the lab before it was consumed by an anomaly and became the Folding City.[8]
While attempting to escape, the Exalted One grabbed Rogue's leg to try and drag her back into the Folding City, with Sekmeht trying to pull her free. Grigori Mengo severed his arm and one of his reality-warping gauntlets, trapping Verherrglichenn and the other scientists forever.[8]
Gambit managed return to the present not long afterwards. Sekmeht informed him about events that unfolded in the Folding City, which he thanked Rogue for when they reunited at JFK Airport.[9]Trivia
- Gambit described her as having a "husky voice."[5]
