History

Selena Slate was the lab assistant to Dr. Charles Warren Fong. Fong was working on an experiments with light using a synthetic diamond. Slate conspired with her boyfriend, Garth, to steal the diamond. Both of their attempts to steal the diamond were disrupted by Sleepwalker, who had become addicted to the light generated through the diamond. Grasping the diamond while it was still irradiated with light, Slate became empowered as Spectra.

After Civil War

After the Civil War, she was listed as a potential recruit for the Initiative.
