- A caption in the final panel of this story explains that although Fury sustained the injury to his eye while fighting in World War II he did not lose eyesight in that eye until twenty years later. This was possibly added to account for the two post-war appearances Fury made in Fantastic Four #21 and Sgt. Fury Annual #1. Both of these stories featured Nick Fury without his trademark eyepatch.
