History

Shafik Wazzan was a wizard who believed that demons were the creators and rulers of the world. He captured Gargoyle in order to use mind-control to have him do his bidding. While at his castle in Afghanistan, Shafik used his powers to over come a group of attacking Soviet helicopters and infiltrated a Soviet military base where he killed a Soviet general by turning his flesh into clay and causing him to melt. Ultimately, Gargoyle convinced him to go to the United States. Initially, he went to New York City, but upon detecting the threat of Doctor Strange, relocated to the Rockies of Colorado where he was met by the Defenders who sought to rescue Gargoyle from his capture.
