History

As Emperor Sunfire, Yoshida maintained a delicate balance in dealing with the politics of the Earth-58163 House of M reality-warp. He assisted fellow rulers Storm and the Black Panther when they asked for his help.

However, his regime was also involved in Project: Genesis, illegally conducting experiments on humans, attempting to give them superhuman powers. Sunfire claimed that the project's goal was to transform organic waste into food for the poor. His cousin, Mariko was kidnapped and her safety was used as a bargaining chip in publicly revealing the truth of these experiments. This plot was exposed by the Hellions, a junior Red Guard team consisting of young mutants.
