Shoji Soma was the Grandmaster of the Hand. He was also invited to Leonardo da Vinci's Great Wheel as Pisces.[1]
As the Hand and Hydra share a history,[2] Soma was close to Hydra's Baron Strucker, a fellow Wheel member. When Orion and Magadan of Leviathan betrayed the Wheel by stealing special chambers and a Brood power source to enhance Leviathan's soldiers, Soma and Strucker united to seize the Brood power source, leaving most of Leviathan trapped in stasis in the chambers. Soma hid the Brood power source in a box by Clan Yashida and was killed by Magadan the next day.[3]
History

The Great Wheel
In 1961, the Hand Grandmaster Shoji Soma was contacted by the Brotherhood of the Shield and was brought to the Immortal City to meet with Leonardo da Vinci in Pieta. Along with other intelligence agents from around the globe—Jake Fury, Magadan, John Garrett, Cornelius van Lunt, Nick Fury, Baron Strucker, Dum Dum Dugan, Thomas Davidson, the Kraken, and Orion—they formed the Great Wheel. Each member was assigned a codename from the zodiac, Soma being Pisces. Leonardo da Vinci was the leader as Aries, sent the rest of the Wheel on three key retrieval missions, and promised them resources that would be of great value to their own separate agendas. Shoji Soma took part in an operation along with John Garrett, Kraken and Magadan, infiltrated an ancient Brood vessel in Giza, Egypt, killed the Brood host and acquired a power source. The Great Wheel later fell apart due to the betrayal of Orion and Magadan of Leviathan.[1]
Shoji Soma and Baron Strucker united to attack Leviathan and severely wounded Orion; Magadan rushed Orion into stasis, but the superhuman process could not be carried out after Hydra and the Hand had stolen the Brood power source. Shoji Soma met with Lord Shigen and the Silver Samurai of Clan Yashida at Agarashima, and Soma hid the alien power source vital towards the revival of Leviathan inside a Yashida ancestral box. Despite Shigen's warning that no one who has opened the box has lived to see it closed, Soma knew that he was already dead. The next day, Magadan attempted to retrieve the power source in order to revive Orion, killing Shoji Soma in his search, but could not find it. Magadan and Leviathan went dark for many years.[3]Attributes
