History

Shriver Cove was a small, picturesque town in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, that took pride in its idillic lifestyle and having the most powerful TV transmitter in its part of Massachusetts, reaching places that Boston stations did not reach.[1]

The misanthropic supervillain Nekra, adopting the identity of Adrienne Hatros[1] that she had used before,[2] used Shriver Cove in a plan to control the population by drugging the water supply, and then subjecting them to rituals based on African tribal rites with sounds rhythmic dances and hypnotic dances, so that they focused on hate. To this end, she set up in Shriver Cove the Hatros Clinic,[1] which she had also used in the past,[2] and got the majority of locals interested in its stress treatment. Gaining greater control over Shriver Cove, Nekra managed to isolate the town by discouraging visitors and selectively blocking information from outside.[1]

However, photographer Peter Parker (secretly the superhero Spider-Man) visited Shriver Cove as part of the promotional tour for his book Webs - and was immediately attacked by a local who hated outsiders. Seeing that it was not an isolated incident, Spider-Man investigated inside the Clinic (where he was attacked by two mind-controlled locals dressed as cultists) and, suspecting that they had drugged the water, asked biochemist superhero Dr. Henry Pym, of the Avengers West Coast, for help. Pym discovered the nature of the problem and was able to develop a cure, but he too was captured and brought to Nekra in a cave. Pym freed himself with the help of Spider-Man, and together they defeated the mind-controlled townspeople, put Nekra to flight, and cured the population.[1]
