- Shuriken was an independent creator-owned series created by Reggie Byers and published by Victory Productions. The character also appeared in Eternity Comics, an imprint of Malibu Comics, in the title Blade of Shuriken and the crossover title Shuriken Team-Up. Reggie Byers later sold the rights to Malibu Comics, making Shuriken one of the first characters that were owned directly by the publisher rather than the creators. After several limited series, the character was rebooted as part of the Ultraverse. Shuriken has been owned by Marvel since 1994, so that's the reason why Marvel Database covers her pre-Malibu appearances (for similar case, see Marvelman).
- Shuriken (Kyoko Shidara) had a striking similarity in appearance, backstory, abilities and powers with her Ultraverse version Brittany Chien, and Brittany is, for all intents and purposes, the same character as Kyoko, only older and using an alias.
- Shuriken Vol. 2 was the final Shuriken series done by Malibu. The story introduced various retcons of the character of Shuriken and her supporting characters.
