Sidney Abel was a simple person but physically small to the point of not even being accepted into the Army, so he started working in a laboratory that carried out research for the Army and he in particular took care of the guinea pigs they used for their experiments. When he had to place guinea pigs on an island where they would detonate a nuclear warhead, he decided to stay on the island since his life had little meaning. However, he did not die with the bomb explosion but received a high dose of radiation that modified his DNA and physically transformed him, making him a tall and muscular man, the one he had always dreamed of. Escaping from the research center, Sidney returned to his city to first meet his best friend Bill, who was afraid of him as he was contaminated, and then he went to Nancy's house, the girl with whom Sidney was in love but to whom he had never declared himself due to his physical appearance. Nancy chased him away, telling him that she didn't recognize him as Sidney, who she remembered as a sweet and kind person while he was a monster. She also told him that her parents had both died from shock upon hearing the news of what had happened to him. Rejected by everyone, at that point Sidney decided to retreat to the contaminated island in the company of the only beings who would accept him, his guinea pigs.[1]
