- —General Glenn Talbot, to Lt. Lance Hunter (Earth-199999)[1]
Sierra Leone was an African country with important presence of organized crime and healthcare deficiencies that allowed for outbreaks of diseases like Ebola. Its nuclear power plant in Pendembu was attacked by a giant monster in the first incursion of the Mole Man against the surface world. At least some of the Sierra Leonean criminal groups travelled to African country Azania during the Azanian civil war. In recent times, Parker Industries transported Ebola patients from Sierra Leone to a contained facility in a different country.
History
Sierra Leone was a country in Africa that faced significant challenges, including a notable presence of organized crime (including a number of international terrorist and/or criminal groups in Sierra Leone)[2] and healthcare deficiencies that allow for outbreaks that the country had no capacity to deal with,[3] while simultaneously maintaining a degree of industrial development: There were advanced power plants, including atomic-powered ones, in the territory: Shortly before the first public appearance of the Fantastic Four, the power plant in Pendembu, Sierra Leone, was attacked by a giant, reptilian monster controlled by the Mole Man as a part of his campaign against such technologies all over the surface world; the news reported this disaster and broadcast footage of it.[4]
During the civil war in the African country Azania (caused because of the Azanian black population rebelling against the Apartheid-like Azanian state, and had strong opposition from an uncompromising faction of the ruling white minority), international terrorist and/or criminal groups from Sierra Leone travelled there to join the conflict, as did other similar groups from other African countries.[2]
In more recent times, an outbreak of Ebola scourged Sierra Leone. American company Parker Industries, in an humanitarian effort, devoted resources to transport patients in Sierra Leone abroad to receive treatment in a contained facility, as was reported in an internal memo by Anna Maria Marconi. Marconi later used this as an excuse for CEO Peter Parker absence in a meeting, claiming that Mr. Parker was personally involved in the operation - The real reason for this absence was that Mr. Parker had been secretly operating as superhero Spider-Man, an activity Marconi knew about; and she reprimanded him for not knowing about the company's actions in Sierra Leone.[3]

In 2011, Lieutenant Amadeus "Lance" Hunter of the British Army's Special Air Service was deployed to Sierra Leone in a mission that he accomplished, demonstrating his skills and contributing to his professional reputation. Three years later, U.S. Army General Glenn Talbot referenced Hunter's involvement in the Sierra Leone operation as evidence of Hunter's impressive military background.[1]Points of Interest
