Synopsis for "Job Hunting"
Brief Summary:
The Silver Surfer attempts to find a job, in order to earn enough credits to exit Dynamo City. With little practical work experience and not able to handle manual labor without his Power Cosmic, the Surfer has nowhere else to go but the shanty town, Tent City. There he learns of a way to sell his memories for credits. He meets with the Sensory Stimulation Network and agrees to give them his memories for a price. However, he is angered to find that his final earnings (after all the hidden fees have been applied) are not even enough to pay the city's exit fee.
Detailed Summary:
The Silver Surfer waits in the Dynamo City employment line in hopes of finding a job that will earn him enough credits to exit this place. Due to his limited job experiences, he is placed on a construction job site. However, his metallic skin (without his cosmic powers) overheats him while doing the manual labor and causes him to collapse. He is let go, not being fit for the job.
With no money and nowhere to go, he is directed to go to Tent City, a shanty town on the edges of the metropolis. There he meets Zeaklar and others who are struggling to make ends meet in Dynamo City. While there, he learns of the Sensory Stimulation Network. A network who pays, and then broadcasts to the city, the memories of others.
The Silver Surfer meets with the network's producers and agrees to sell his memories to them for a fee of 200 credits. With the deal done, they attach the Surfer to the network's interface and begin broadcasting the Surfer's origin, his time as herald of Galactus, and his adventures after escaping Earth. Already angry that his privacy had been invaded, the Surfer loses control when they give him only two credits (with the rest lost to hidden fees). The network's guards subdue him and toss him on the street, dejected and unconscious.
