The Sirenas were "Mermaids from the Sulu Sea", off the coast of Mindanao, Philippines, and ancestral enemies of Atlantis.[1] The Sirenas were believed to be a myth by the Filipino people.[2]
History
Origin and early years[]
The Sirenas were "Mermaids from the Sulu Sea".[1] They were possibly as ancient as the gods.[3]
They became ancestral enemies of Atlantis, both parties blaming the other one:
- According to the Atlanteans, the dragon "Kala Teer" protected their people for generation from the waves of Sirena hordes. Countless of these "savages" turned back from Atlantis. Although, always more Sirenas lurked, waiting the chance to strike at Atlantis.
- According to the Sirenas, the dragon "Kalak Ti'er" murdered and preyed upon the Sirenas for generation. A thousand Sirenas were killed, while Atlantis laughed at the slaughter.[1]
Modern Age[]
The Sirenas were believed to be a myth by the Filipino people.[2]
The human heroes Aero (Lei Ling) and Wave (Pearl Pangan) helped Carina and the human Sea Hunter overthrow their queen,[1] Reyna Sirena.[4]
Atlantis-Pan conflict[]
To fight the war with Namor, king of Atlantis, started over the imprisonment of Kala Teer, whom Big Nguyen Company CEO Mike Nguyen used to power Pan, the Portal City, Nguyen enlisted help of the Sirenas, led by Carina and the Sea Hunter.[3]
The dragon was released, seemingly in compliance to Namor's ultimatum to Nguyen, and returned to Atlantis, as it was implanted with[3] Sirena tech which caused it to go insane[1] and tear the city apart. Namor immediatley attacked the city and Amadeus Cho, leader of the new Agents of Atlas, who had negotiated between the two parties. Cho was wounded by Namor,[3] but the Submariner was incapacitated by the timely arrival of the Sirenas.
As Nguyen and the Sirenas were plotting an attack on the weakened Atlantis, Namora, Venus, and Jimmy Woo returned with the Sirena implant, causing the Sirenas, Agents of Atlas, and protectors of Pan to argue on the right of a strike. Protector had the Pan Guard to temporal blast the Agents, leaving the Sirenas to ride towards Atlantis, joined by Wave, despite Aero's opposition.[1]Habitat
