The In-Betweener's Skinner boxes are tools used to observe, program, and re-educate higher order magicians and scientists, like Cubisk Core and Robert Forson.[1] Users see the box as "the Real World"; the world outside is a "dream" that they tend to forget when they "wake up."[2] Currently, they are used to teach the ways of Oblivion.[3]
History
The In-Betweener created Skinner boxes to hold and reprogram magicians and scientists. The box was the "home" of Cubisk Core. After the Buchcub had reduced Cubisk Core's mind to a child, he returned to his box in Athens, Georgia and reunited with his mysterious lover inside. Doctor Strange, Wyn, and Dimitri watched from the outside.[1]

Wyn and Strange inside a Skinner box
Soon after, Robert Forson, another person who had the same markings as Cubisk Core, attempted to end everything at the Library of Worlds. He too was defeated by Wyn and Strange, who returned him home and found yet another Skinner box. The magical duo entered the box and discovered it was way bigger on the inside than on the outside. Additionally, there was a door that led to a massive labyrinth made of Skinner boxes.[2]
The Asgardians entered the Skinner Box's labyrinth in search for their missing brother Tyr, who had been led into the box by Loki in order to trap him following the incident with Røkkva. However, the Skinner Box was much worse than Røkkva as it had taught Tyr the ways of Oblivion. A portion of Tyr's soul had been removed, allowing Oblivion to take over him, and the Odinspawn, with help from Tiwaz, were able to restore Tyr by completing his soul.[3]Properties

Robert Forson being educated by the In-Betweener inside a Skinner box
The space inside a Skinner box is massive. When being used by the In-Betweener for education, he brings in a monitor and supplies and awards progress with praise. However, there is also a door that residents are not supposed to open, which leads to an even bigger room with more Skinner boxes, possibly linking them all together. To the boxes' inhabitants, the box is their home and everything outside the box is "only a dream," and like a dream, it is easily forgotten once the person "wakes up."[2]
Trivia
- "Bigger on the inside than the outside,"[2] is a reference to the TARDIS from Doctor Who.
