History
Soldier, as he was known, was a former agent of Hydra with a dirty past. He eventually walked out, and blacked out his numerous Hydra-related tattoos.[4] Afterward, Soldier came to live in a tenement with his mother in the territory of Manhattan that Moon Knight claimed under his protection. One night, he was attacked by the elderly tenants, including his mother, who were secretly under the control of the janitor Leonard Hawley as part of Zodiac's tests for Moon Knight. Injured, soldier sought help from Moon Knight's Midnight Mission. After Moon Knight treated his injuries, Soldier took him to the tenement. While Soldier retrieved his gun from his apartment, he fell under Hawley's control and held Moon Knight at gunpoint. After Moon Knight neutralized Hawley by tricking him into attempting to mentally control his fractured mind, Soldier and the rest of the tenants broke free from his clutches.[5]
Soldier became an ally of Moon Knight,[6] but he was framed as a traitor by Zodiac. The villain planted evidence that Soldier was monitoring Moon Knight's activities, and later lured Moon Knight back to the Midnight Mission, where he left Soldier chained and a bomb's clock ticking. Zodiac intended for Moon Knight to choose between trying to rescue Soldier and saving himself, but Marc managed to escape with Soldier just as the bomb exploded. After admitting to his sordid past, Soldier pledged his full allegiance to Moon Knight for saving his life twice over.[7] In the hunt for Zodiac, Soldier helped Moon knight interrogate 8-Ball on a lead.[8] In helping locate an abducted Dr. Andrea Sterman, Soldier wrote down her location from Waxman's panicked disclosure before Moon Knight buried him alive.[9]
While Moon Knight led a raid with Rutherford Winner and Tigra, Soldier and Reese saw Zodiac come upon the Midnight Mission to kill them and the neighbors. However, cautious of the immediately repaired scene, Zodiac instead threatened the neighbors if Reese didn't exit, hastening an ill-planned distraction whereby Soldier disguised himself as Mr. Knight.[1] While confounding the villain for a brief moment, Soldier was shot even though Reese ran to intercept the bullet, and was dead on impact, moments before Moon Knight and Tigra returned.[2] In an unexpected turn of events however, the bullet that hit him took a chunk of Reese's heart and inadvertently turned him to a vampire, making him return to life.[3]
Later, Moon Knight began targeting the Structure,[10] and, when Moon Knight told him about his D.I.D., Soldier was accepting out of loyalty and his actions beforehand,[11] helping Moon Knight find Lady Yulan, to help them in the fight against the Structure.[3]Personality
