History

The Spartoi hail from the planet Spartax in the Large Magellanic Cloud. From Spartax, they crafted a small Empire from the outlying systems, ruled by an Emperor.

They are a race with a common ancestry to the Shi'ar. While they are not necessarily allies, they have attempted a union in the past and do not consider one another to be enemies.

The Spartoi were a highly advanced civilization with an empire that spanned through numerous planets. The Spartoi Empire was ruled by a monarch who was elevated to a god-like status. J'son of the royal family had arrived to Earth where he conceived a son by the name of Peter with the human Meredith Quill. During the Galactic War, the Chitauri stroked the Spartoi Empire by going after the members of the royal bloodline. The Empire barely managed to survive the war, but had since cut all contact with the outside universe, going in a dark age.

Notes

• The Spartoi Empire of the Spartoi race from the planet Spartax was first mentioned as the homeworld of Prince Jason who was heir to the throne of the Empire. This Spartax was located in the Sparta star system of the Large Magellanic Cloud and this Prince Jason was intended to be a younger version of the Emperor Jason who ruled his empire from the planet Sparta and was the biological father of Star-Lord.
• A subsequent retcon by Brian Michael Bendis revealed that the biological father of the Star-Lord who was born on Earth-616 was actually King J'Son, ruler of the Spartax Empire of the Spartax race from the planet Spartax.
• The fact that the Spartoi Prince Jason and the Spartax King J'Son could not possibly be the same person means that their respective planets, both named Spartax, could also not be the same.

Trivia

• The word "spartoi" in Greek means "the sown men" which referred to armed men that sprang from the dragon's teeth after they were sown by the Greek hero Cadmus, and became the ancestors of Thebes' five oldest families.
