History

"Sphinx" Henchel was a racketeer who was put away in prison thanks to the work of the New York district attorney and judge Lind. When he was later released in 1941, he plotted a complicated revenge scheme to eliminate the people who put him away. Sending one of his men to pretend to be an escaped mental patient, the goon interrupted an important operation on the judge, leading to his death.

This suspicious activity attracted the attention of the Angel who made the connection between the judge's death and Henchel's recent release from prison. The Angel tracked Hechel down to find him just as he was about to force the D.A. to walk out into the street and get run over by a car. The Angel intervened, swooping into the rescue and pulling the D.A. out of the way of an on coming car. In a twist of irony, the car swerved out of the way and fatally ran down Henchel and his minions.[1]
