History
The Spider-Clones were an army of Synthezoid clones of Spider-Man created by Arnim Zola's Hydra through many failed attempts until they coveted Doctor Octopus' assistance. When Scarlet Spider came looking for Doctor Octopus for revenge, he sent the leftover prototype Synthezoids from the Project Kaine program to keep him busy as the doctor searched for his data.
One of these clones ventured out locating Spider-Man and absorbed some of his life force. When Spidey and Spider-Woman located the lab where it came from, the clone followed and shared the life force with the other synthezoids to stabilize them, making then into nearly identical copies of Peter. Beneath the lab, Ock also laid a batch of Synthezoid copies of Scarlet Spider. Together, Peter, MJ, and Ben battled the clone army, as they're trying to reach Ock. As the clones were unstable, they degenerated and collapsed after a single hit and dissolved.
Kaine was the only survivor left due to absorbing Spider-Man's life energy that stabilized his synth DNA and began pursuing the spiders to absorb their energy.[1]
