Synopsis for "Year One: Part One"
A young Otto Octavius is shown visiting the museum with his mother where he is enamored with the great thinker Leonardo da Vinci.
Flashing forward, Otto is shown being ruthlessly bullied by his classmates in primary school as they practice hiding from Soviet nuclear attacks under their desks and as they play sports in gym class. At the gym, Otto's classmates smash his glasses. When Otto arrives home after school, his mother tries to console Otto but his abusive father, Torbert, becomes upset at Otto and tries to beat him for not defending himself against his classmates. Otto gives his father a piercing glare as he imagines his father being blown to shreds by radiation. His father, disconcerted by Otto's stare, stumbles backwards and slices his hand on one of Otto's glass beakers. After his father leaves, the young Otto thanks the beaker for harming his father.
Flashing forward, Otto arrives home after school to announce to his parents that he has been accepted to the university M.I.T. Otto, now older and more confident, is able to smugly antagonize his father for his father's lack of intelect as his mother celebrates Otto's achievement.
At university, Otto excels in his classes and enjoys them but is still bullied by his college classmates. One night, Otto is caught by his professor, Charles, trespassing in a university labratory as he devises complex equations relating to the study of radiation. Charles is impressed and eventually brings Otto to a group of professor scientists all working on radiation experiments together. Otto quickly usurps them all.
While walking through campus one day, Otto is knocked over by a young Peter Parker who was tripped by Flash Thompson. Otto makes a wrathful comment about the brutishness of the bullies to Peter, but is surprised when Peter does not reciprocate Otto's hate.
Some time later, Otto is informed that his father has passed away in a machinery accident at work. Otto, instead of grieving, thanks the machinery for killing his father. At his father's funeral, Otto argues with the priest over whether his father was a good man.
At some point later, Otto is recommended for a job in the military by Charles. As Otto accepts the job to study radiation for the government, he stares out the window, imagining the city being blown apart by radiation.
