Cast
Notes
- Originally slated to be released on April 8, 2022, this film was later pushed back to October 7, 2022,[25] and again to June 2, 2023.[26]
- Originally announced as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One),[27] this film later dropped the "Part One" from the title,[26] however, the packaging for the Marvel Legends figures for the film still have the "Part One" on the title.
Trivia
- Even before a script was finalized or a villain chosen, the production team had set on Across the Spider-Man being "a story about family, and the struggle of being both a son and a Spider-Man."[28]
- A time-stamp in the security camera in Lenny's bodega places the events of the movie set in Earth-1610B on 2023/07/11. This contradicts Miles' narration stating that he has been Spider-Man for one year and four months, since the events of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse take place in December 2018.
- A set piece from Miles' first fight with the Spot that was cut from the film involved the two characters teleporting through a Chinese restaurant.[29]
- In a concept-stage version of Miles' talk with Gwen during Jefferson's party saw them at a greenhouse rather than a water tower.[30]
- In a piece of concept art, Miles and Gwen visited Hobie's reality. The aesthetic of Earth-138 was inspired by 1970’s punk posters, namely the use of overly processed/xeroxed images, cutout shapes, and hand done linework.[31]
- A scene cut from the movie featured Jessica Drew fighting a real cyborg octopus version of Doctor Octopus.[32]
- Alex Ross' Spider-Man design for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man appears in this film in the form of one of the many alternate Spider-Men in the Spider Society.
- The movie features the return of the Spider-Men from several animated series, namely Spider-Man Unlimited, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the 1994 Spider-Man animated series also have presence in the movie in the form of Videoman making an appearance and Earth 65B's Peter Parker briefly wearing 1994 Peter's iconic polo shirt, respectively.
- Multiple duplicates of the same Spider-Men appear in the movie, Spider-Man Unlimited being one of the most prominent cases since four different versions of him appeared in different scenes in different locations back to back.
- The following Spider-Man variants were considered but didn't make it into the film: Ultimate Spider-Woman, Ben Reilly as the Sensational Spider-Man, Man-Spider, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Spider-Man, Supaidāman and his Leopardon[33], Zombie Spider-Man, Night-Spider, Spider-Man 1602, Spider-Ma'am, Spider-Chef, Amalgam Universe Spider-Boy, Turkish Spider-Man from the unlicensed film 3 Dev Adam, Dormammuverse Spider-Man, Ashley Barton, a robot Spider-Man, a Spider-Wizard, and a fox mascot for Samurai Spider-Man,[34][35] and a Toy Biz Spider-Man being held by a giant kid's hand off-screen,[36]
- Some villains that were considered for the film but didn't make it to the final cut were Stilt-Man, Trapster, The Wall, Agent Venom, Electro, White Rabbit, Jack O'Lantern, Scorpion (Earth-1610B), Ultimate Mysterio, a cavewoman Boomerang, A TV-head Screwball, a few different variants of Green Goblin (a Ghost Rider Green Goblin, a skier one, a figurine one and a puppet one), Ox, Human Fly, Hippo, Xandu, 8-Ball, Chtylok, Hammer Harrison, Radioactive Man, and the fully original character of Coffee Man. Most of the villains were designed for a scene taking place in the Bar with No Name that was cut from the movie.[35] Tiger Shark, Clam, and a variant of Diamondhead as prisoners of the Spider Society and another variant of Diamondhead in Earth-138B ultimately made it into the film. The cut scene of the Bar with No Name also featured its proprietor, Delilah, who makes an appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
- Some art styles explored for other realities in the film include Mike Mignola / Hellboy,[37][38] Jack Kirby inspired universe featuring Leapardon,[33] Joseph Christian Leyendecker,[39] a N. C. Wyeth-inspired reality for Web-Slinger,[40] Provensens,[41] Zap Comix,[42] Monument Valley,[43] Moebius,[44] Ashley Wood[45] and a Modern Cartoon styled reality.[46]
- Early in development different styles and characters were explored. These are the sinister six from Norse mythology, and a Kraven in mid 18th century miniature painting style[47]
- The “canon events” listed are each references to various different Spider-Man stories, most of which happened to the mainstream variant of the character, although many suspiciously did not occur, or have not occurred, in the history of most Spider-Totems. These canon events include the following:
- The death of the Spider-Totem’s original love interest. This one is unconfirmed, but is alluded to by Gwen when she states that every time Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy fall in love, it doesn’t end well.
- The Spider-Totem’s origin of getting superpowers from being bit by a radioactive spider.
- The Spider-Totem receiving an upside-down kiss.
- The Spider-Totem bonding with the Venom symbiote.
- The death of an inspirational figure that teaches the Spider-Totem a variation of “with great power comes great responsibility”. This tends to be Ben Parker, but for Gwen it is Peter Parker and for Miles it is Aaron Davis.
- The death of a police captain close to Spider-Man (typically George Stacy) from falling rubble. This event is classified “ASM90” a reference to the comic issue this took place in within Earth-616.
- Although Miguel states that the police captain is crushed by rubble trying to save a child, one of the captains shown is George Stacy’s Earth-120703 variant, who was stabbed by the Lizard instead of being crushed by rubble, and was simply trying to fight the Lizard as opposed to saving a kid. Arguably, the child was his Peter.
- The Spider-Totem temporarily quitting being a superhero.
- The Spider-Totem pushing themselves out of rubble.
- The Spider-Totem getting married.
- The Spider-Totem crawling out of their own grave.
- The movie features a cameo from Metro Boomin, who executive-produced the soundtrack to the film, as a version of Spider-Man.
- It is implied that the records of the Spider-Society, in addition to the members themselves, feature various variants of established characters in addition to the established characters themselves. For example, in the records of the canon event detailing the upside-down kiss, Peter Parker-96283 is seen with his upside down kisses with Mary Jane Watson-96823 and Gwen Stacy-96283. It can be implied that a variant of this Peter ended up in a relationship with Gwen in contrast to the Earth-96283 variant, who is in a relationship with Mary Jane. This could likely explain why some versions of characters, like Spider-Man Unlimited, occasionally have multiple versions of themselves onscreen at the same time.
