Synopsis for "The Surfer and the Spider!"
Silver Surfer #14
Brief Summary:
The Silver Surfer and Spider-Man cross paths while both are soaring through the city. Based on what he's heard about the Surfer, Spider-Man treats him with hostility. The Surfer tries to avoid fighting him, but Spider-Man doesn't let him leave. The army enters the battle and begins to fire on the Surfer. He calls his board, but is shocked to see a boy on it. The Surfer sacrifices himself to protect the boy from the army's firepower. Seeing this sacrifice, Spider-Man and the army stop their attack, realizing they were wrong in seeing the Silver Surfer as the enemy.
Detailed Summary:
The Silver Surfer is knocked out while stopping two meteors from colliding above the Earth. He ends up falling into the New York Harbor and slowly revives himself in the cool waters. He takes to the air and flies around New York City, trying to clear his head.
As he soars above the buildings, Spider-Man accidentally catches his web on the bottom of the Surfer's board. Thinking he is being attacked, he tries to get rid of Spider-Man. Spider-Man doesn't appreciate the Surfer's attitude and doesn't let him leave.
A young super-hero fan named Henry sees the Surfer fly up to the roof of his apartment building and rushes upstairs to see him. He watches the two heroes argue and battle each other. The battle draws the attention of the authorities and the army is sent in to attack the Surfer. They begin firing at him, forcing him to call for his board. However, by summoning his board, he unknowingly pulls Henry into battle as well. This is because the boy was playing on the board while the other two were distracted with their fight.
Realizing that no one else sees the boy approaching the battle, the Surfer lowers the power level of his cosmic energy to delicately bring him to safety. This diminished power leaves the Surfer open to attack, but he sacrifices himself to protect the child. Henry's father stops the army's attack, when he sees his son standing next to the wounded Surfer. Realizing the sacrifice that the Silver Surfer made, Spider-Man and the army leave, feeling ashamed that they saw him as a threat.
