History
The Spirit of Variance began life as a Spirit of Vengeance. At some point in its existence, it underwent a drastic shift in perspective, coming to believe that the pursuit of vengeance was futile. Instead, it embraced a new doctrine; that of change, and became determined to catalyze change wherever it went.
Its exploits were short-lived, however, as its kind rejected it as a freak and cast it out.[3] It was rescued and nurtured by Mother Righteous,[1] who offered to bind it to Legion. Legion refused the offer and so she offered the Spirit to Banshee instead,[4] who accepted it.[5] Together, the two began operating under the name Vox Ignis.[2]
Vox Ignis worked for Mother Righteous for a thousand years before the timeline was reset by the Moira Engine. Prior to the reset, however, Mother Righteous separated the Spirit of Variance from Banshee and used it as fuel for a magic spell that sent the chronicled history of the aborted future to her past self. As a result of that, the Spirit of Variance was retroactively erased from existence and Banshee never became Vox Ignis on Earth-616.[6][7]See Also
