Synopsis for "Cepheid Variable"
The Starjammers have dozens of Kree refugees on board as they are hunted by the Shi'Ar. At some point, a Shi'Ar warship pinpoints the Starjammers in the Mother's Ruin system. However, the Starjammers have hidden their ship well, so the Shi'Ar prepare to release fusion mines to prevent their escape. The Starjammers are forced to launch a surprise attack on the Shi'Ar ship and successfully destroy it. They learn of an incoming Shi'Ar fleet and hurry to escape through a stargate. Later, they land on the Clench world of Standing Still, where they meet with Helek who takes up the Kree refugees.
Meanwhile, on Chandilar, Empress Lilandra Neramani receives reports of planets being mysteriously attacked and destroyed. The attackers call themselves the Uncreated and seem to target planets with religious affiliations. This puts all Shi'Ar worlds in danger as the culture is built on the married gods of Sharra and K'ythri.
