Quote1 This is an Uncreated. It seems they knew themselves to have been created by a 'god' -- and that, strangely, created a species-wide inferiority complex. They did not have the concept of faith. I feel the art, the creation myth, is there to constantly remind them of their origins and purpose. This is their god. They hunted it down and killed it. Their purpose is to do the same to any religious culture they encounter, for those cultures are considered dangerously backward, an implicit threat to the 'order' the Uncreated have imposed on the universe. A reverse crusade -- they're not religious fundamentalists, but the most violent atheists ever. Quote2

Synopsis for "Collapsar"

The Starjammers find themselves stranded in space after their battle with the Uncreated, and their ship's engines are damaged. Corsair and Hepzibah decide to check on the engines as they hide in a nebula. The couple discusses their future, with Corsair contemplating leaving his pirate life behind and trusting Lilandra to make a difference.

The rest of the Starjammers works on repairs and investigates debris from the damaged Uncreated vessel. Ch'od discovers an information storage module containing the Uncreated's data, revealing that they've been tracking Phalanx movements toward Earth's galaxy arm.

Despite repairs, the Starjammer still lacks faster-than-light travel. But now the Shi'Ar fleet has finally detected them, and Corsair devises a plan to escape by using high-yield disruption bombs to expand nebula gases, propelling them to hyperspeed. Hepzibah waits until the Shi'Ar ships are in range before launching the bombs. The plan succeeds, and they escape to their base on the planet Standing Still.

Back at Helek's house, Ch'od analyzes the Uncreated data and learns that they are a slave race that killed their own god due to their atheistic beliefs. They aim to eradicate any religious cultures. The Starjammers now have information that could impact the Shi'Ar-Uncreated conflict, but they must decide whether to use it or not.
