—Opal Luna Saturnyne[source]Now Captain Britain will be my knight. The Starlight Citadel itself contains the doorways to every reality. Now you will defend the citadel and all reality... with a blade forged from its very walls.
The Starlight Sword was a magical blade forged by Saturnyne from the walls of the Starlight Citadel.[2]
History
Origin[]
After the fall of the Captain Britain Corps, Opal Luna Saturnyne sealed the doors of the Tower Omniverse. Deciding the she would reconfigure the Captain Britain Corps, Saturnyne chose to forgo the test of Amulet of Right and Sword of Might and instead to simple confirm her own knights. To accomplish this, she commission the forging of the Starlight Sword made from the very walls of the Starlight Citadel.[2]
X of Swords[]
During the attack of the First Horsemen of Apocalypse on the Starlight Citadel, Saturnyne intervened and set a contest where the forces of Krakoa and Arakko would each have ten swordbearers fighting in Otherworld.[3] While preparing for the tournament, Saturnyne attempted to seduce Brian Braddock to wield the Starlight Sword and reclaim the mantle of Captain Britain. However, the Braddock siblings were able to deceive Saturnyne and allow Betsy to lay claim on the Starlight Sword. Armed with the Starlight Sword and the Sword of Might respectively, Betsy Braddock as Captain Britain and Brian Braddock as Captain Avalon joined the other Swordbearers of Krakoa in the Voltus Glade on Krakoa.[2]
During the first round of Saturnyne's tournament, Captain Britain armed with the Starlight Sword was chosen to face off in a swordfight with Isca the Unbeaten armed with Mercy in Avalon. The sword fight was short and brutal ending with Captain Britain and her Starlight Sword literally shattering to pieces.[4]
The Return of Captain Britain[]
With Betsy missing and Malice inhabiting her husk body, Psylocke stepped in to help Excalibur find the real Betsy.[5] With help from Elspeth Braddock, Betsy's soul was returned to Excalibur on Earth-616. However, when Rictor's spell failed to return Betsy's soul to her body, Psylocke shattered her lantern container allowing her to escape into Otherworld. When Psylocke found her in Otherworld, she temporarily allowed Betsy to share her own body. Together, they were able to manifest the Starlight Sword and used it to return Betsy to her body and expel Malice.[1]
Captain Britain wielded the Starlight Sword in battle against King Arthur and the Otherworld army of Merlyn.[6] While retreating through the Krakoan Gateway in Camelot to the Braddock Lighthouse, Merlin and Coven Akkaba cast a spell to destroy the Gateway. Fortunately, Captain Britain was able to use the power of the Starlight Sword to hold the portal open long enough to ensure her friends were safely on Braddock Isle before reentering Otherworld to continue the war.[7]
