History
Origin[]
The Starstone was created during the Big Bang from primeval matter left from the previous universe.[2] The great wizard Merlin speculated the Starstone contained a mysterious ancient lifeforce.[3]
Landing on Earth[]
Professor Gamble formerly of the Time Variance Authority was contacted by a mysterious cosmic voice. It instructed him to take the Starstone to Merlin. The Incinerators invaded his time ship and captured the Professor and scanned his mind and learned about the Starstone. They travelled to 5th century England to watch it fall from the sky landing near Camelot. The Incinerators hoped to find the stone to power their Time Incinerator. The time-travelling Anachronauts arrived an witnessed the Incinerators take the stone. They rescued the Professor and defeated the Incinerators. The Professor then gave the Starstone to Merlin in exchange for his copy of the Iron-Bound Book of Skelos. He told Merlin to one day create a weapon from the material to protect this land.[2]
Sword in the Stone[]
With the coronation of King Uther Pendragon fast approaching, Sir Brann was sent to Weyland's smithy to fetch a sword Excalibur for the ceremony. While returning, Sir Brann encountered and attacked a time-traveling Iron Man. After subduing Brann, Iron Man took the sword and his horse, but both Iron Man and Sir Brann were later captured by the forces of Aislinn. The pair was able to escape and Brann even used the sword to slay a Dragon sent by Aislinn. During their final battle with Aislinn and her forces, the sword was lodged into a large stone (Later revealed to be the Starstone) and could not be removed. When Sir Brann informed the new king, the king decided to leave the sword where it was.[4]
When King Uther died leaving no heir to the throne, the sword now with an inscription proclaimed that whoever removes the sword is the rightful King of England. None succeed in removing the sword, which eventually becomes forgotten, leaving England in the Dark Ages. After many years Merlin gathered nobles to try and fail to complete the challenge. The teenaged Arthur Pendragon who up to this point knew nothing of his true lineage effortlessly pulled the sword from the stone by accident and then repeats it publicly. Now wielding the sword named Excalibur hailed King of the Britons.[5]
After Excalibur was drawn from the Starstone by Arthur Pendragon, the Hungry Land ruled by Necromon began to invade the mortal realm. Merlin realized that putting the sword back in the stone would have repelled the dead realm but he chose to keep the sword and instead created The Barrier to prevent any extradimensional invasions.[6]
Black Knight[]
Years later, Merlin melted down the Starstone and had Sir Percy use its metal to forge the Ebony Blade, the Ebony Chalice, the Ebony Shield, and the Ebony Staff. The latter three items were supposedly destroyed but the Ebony Staff was secretly retrieved by Mordred and reforged into the Ebony Dagger.[3][7]
Recently, Mordred gathered all four artifacts and reforged three of them (the chalice, the dagger and the shield) into the Ebony Crown but left the Ebony Blade intact.[8] After defeating Mordred, Dane Whitman hammered the crown down to plate and used the metal to forge the Ebon Siege.[9]See Also
