History
Wishing to retire as Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange took the young mutant Illyana Rasputin under his wing and trained her to be his successor.[1] After Illyana had disappeared beyond the bounds of his universe, Strange spent decades looking for her, never losing hope that she was still alive. Eventually all other Sorcerers of Earth had died out and with Strange being the last one left he experience diminishing returns on magic each time he use his own. Eventually feeling his own death approaching, Strange gathered the bones of other sorcerers and used them in a ritual that claimed his life. This was not in vain as Illyana was woken from her slumber by Eternity and returned home to the Sanctum Sanctorum, where she found Strange still waiting for her as a postmortem spirit.[2]
