History
Origins[]
A scrawny Army reject at the outset of World War II, Steve Rogers became a powerful super hero and decorated veteran known as Captain America by the war’s end. Denied entrance into the armed forces due to his health, Steve realized his only hope of fighting for liberty and justice was to volunteer for a risky military science experiment. He was injected with Super-Soldier Serum and physically transformed into a powerful enemy of evil with legendary strength of body and spirit.
An accident near the end of the war left Captain America frozen in suspended animation until the modern day, making him at first a fish-out-of-water in much the same way as the newly-resurrected Hunter…with the additional complication of having more experience fighting Hydra than supernatural demon-kin. However, Cap’s eagerness to serve the good of humankind meant he didn’t hesitate to answer the call of the Midnight Suns.
The fight against Lilith[]
Captain America and Bruce Banner were the only ones at the Avengers Tower when it came under the assault of Hydra forced led by Crossbones. He held the ground until Iron Man and Hunter arrived to reinforce him. Together, they held the ground and pushed back Crossbones, but then Banner revealed himself to have been in league with Hydra the entire time, having been corrupted by Lilith. He took out the security from the inside, allowing Hydra to severely damage and take over the Avengers Tower. Captain America evacuated with the rest back to the Abbey, which already housed the remaining Avengers, as well as the Midnight Suns. Steve joined in their fight against Lilith, participating in various missions while also making himself a new home in the Abbey, where he joined Blade's book club and developed a friendship with the Hunter.[1]
The Avengers and Caretaker discussed strategy and concurred with Captain America's assessment that reclaiming Sanctum Sanctorum should be their highest priority. Caretaker convened a team meeting and highlighted how Lilith and her followers maintained unity, stressing the absolute need for everyone present to align their efforts in a common direction. Steve suggested that Hunter should lead them, and they accepted the responsibility.[1]
Red Skull's Secrets[]
Captain America informed the others that communications with Transia revealed that Hydra were preventing civilian evacuation. Crossbones interjected their channel, declaring that Transian civilians would only be permitted to depart if Captain America took their place, a condition to which Cap readily agreed. In Transia, Crossbones ordered a Hydra Gunship to fire on a group of fleeing Transians, but Captain America's Shield deflected the missile. The heroes spotted Crossbones fleeing the scene and discovered he armed a device that was rigged to demolish the bridge and everyone on it. Crossbones fired at the device, causing it to overload, but Captain America knocked the bomb off the bridge. Crossbones charged at him, only for both to be thrown backward by the explosion. While Crossbones plummeted over the side, Captain America grabbed his hand. Crossbones said to Captain America that the "old man" had kept the secret knowing the consequences of awakening Lilith. Crossbones passed a thumb drive to Captain America with his free hand before pushing away from the bridge and fell into the abyss.[1]
